Josephine Grayson

Melville - A memorial service for Josephine "Aunt Joe" Grayson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Melville Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Alton Hodnette will conduct the services.

Aunt Joe, age 98, a resident of Melville, died on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her loving and caring family.

Aunt Joe owned and operated Grayson's Grocery for 40 years. She also worked as a dispatcher for the Melville Police Department for 32 years where she retired. In 2005 she was honored as the Mardi Gras Queen at the age of 88 in Melville, LA. Although she never had any children of her own, she did raise three. Everyone that knew her loved her. Her kindness and caring ways made it impossible not to. She will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her niece that she raised, Betty Hawes Denicola of Zachary, LA; her devoted friend and caregiver of over 27 years, Sandra Faye Henry of Melville, LA and her sister-in-law Martha Grayson of Big Bend, LA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ludie Grayson; her niece and nephew that she raised, Larry Grayson and Jeanette Jackson and her 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
