Joseph Scrantz

Krotz Springs JC died peacefully at his residence in his favorite Lazy boy on September 1, 2014. He was born on June 20, 1935 in Cecilia, LA. He spent his working years in Baton Rouge as a welder at Yaun Manufacturing and was a member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Union, Local 760 where he served as SecretaryTreasurer and was a delegate of numerous national conventions. In his retirement years, he spent the remainder of his life at the place he was raised and adored, Krotz Springs, LA. He loved his place on Bayou Courtableau, where he raised cattle, chickens, guineas and ducks. JC was an honest, proud, hardworking man in which he accredited to the United States Marine Corps, which he served with so much pride. He was awarded the National Defense, the Korean, The United Nations and Good Conduct Medals of Honor. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Toi Scrantz and his other daughter as he called her, Brenda S. Catalanatto his granddaughter, Nora Scrantz Baumann, whom she fondly called Daddy Book. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Calvert Scrantz and wife, Shirley, of Baton Rouge, LA Sherby Skrantz and wife, Theresa of Port Barre, LA and Clayton Scrantz of Zachary, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Kilvan and Volina Hayes Scrantz his brothers, Adley Scrantz, Emery Skrantz and Leroy Scrantz his sisters, Josell Beatrice Benoit Shirley Morris, Paola Robin and Verdie Stoute.

Pallbearers will be Noel Youngblood, Tim Guidry, John White, Seth Smith, Calvert and Randy Scrantz. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerard Lacassin, Sherby Skrantz, Dan Loomis and The Krotz Springs Fire Department.

Visitation will be at 239 8th Street in Krotz Springs at LafondArdoin Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4th, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. that evening. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Krotz Springs.

Burial will be after mass at the cemetery in Krotz Springs. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the VFW Honor Guard of Port Barre P. O. Box 626, Port Barre, LA 70577.
