Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Burke Reed will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 2:30PM at St. Landry Catholic Church with the interment in Bellevue Memorial Park. Msgr. Robert Romero will conduct the services.
Mr. Reed, age 81, a resident of Opelousas, died on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Opelousas General Health System. He was a retired salesman of 48 years with Dimmick Auto Supply Company in Opelousas. Following graduation from A.I.C high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served aboard the U.S.S. Harry Lee, APA 10, an assault transport, which took part in combat operations in the Pacific at Iwo Jima, the Philippines and New Caledonia. Mr. Reed was a member of: V.F.W, W.O.W and American Legion in Washington. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Burke was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife; Frances R. Reed of Opelousas, three sons; Rob Reed and his wife Alicia Ryder Reed of Grand Prairie, Richard Dickie Reed and his wife Suzanne Dartez Reed of Lafayette and Kenny Reed and his wife Bertha Budden Reed of Opelousas, a daughter; Patsy Reed Fontenot and her husband Bill of Grand Prairie and a sister; Peggy Reed Buller and her husband William of Ville Platte. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; Ryan and Chris Reed, Kevin Reed and Natalie Dugas, Mia F. Hundley, Jared Fontenot, and Lori F. Trahan and Luke Reed, 2 Great-grandchildren; Parker Reed and Brodie Dugas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Dominique and Vivian Fontenot Reed.
The pallbearers will be; Ryan Reed, Jared Fontenot, Kevin Reed, Steven Hundley, Bill Buller and David Richard. The Readers will be; Mia Hundley and William Buller. The Presenters will be Chris Reed, Lori Trahan and Natalie Dugas.
Music selection will be provided by Sharee Hunter.
The family has requested that visitation will be on Wednesday, from 3:00PM to 9:00PM and will continue on Thursday from 11:00AM until the time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30PM on Wednesday.
