Washington A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jonas J Bailey at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2014, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, LA. Reverend Jarred Suire will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Bailey, age 83, died on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at his residence in Washington, LA.
Jonas served his country proudly in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean War Conflict and was a proud member of the American Legion Post 209 in Washington, LA. He worked as an engineers aide for the Louisiana Highway Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of his grandchildren and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanette Bordelon Bailey, of Washington, LA his son, Jonas W. Bailey and wife, Mary, of Houston, Texas his daughter, Evelyn Bailey Hanna and husband, David, of Washington, LA and his brother, Frederick Robert Bailey of Washington, LA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Abram Bailey, Rachael Bailey, Mariah Hazley, Rebecca Westerman, Jeanette Jenny Hanna and one greatgrandchild, Julie Burrage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Helen Blackwood Bailey.
Visitation will be held at the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will reopen on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. by the Ladies Alter Society and a second rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. by Reverend Jarred Suire.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Westerman, Jason Hazley, Brandon Pang, David Hanna, Mark Bordelon, Joey Bordelon, Jonas Bailey and Abram Bailey.
