Funeral services will be held for John Vickman Thibodeaux at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018in the Skip Montet Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. Entombment will follow in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church mausoleum in Port Barre. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the service.
Mr. Thibodeaux, age 69, who was born in Opelousas, grew up in Lawtell and was former resident of Port Barre, died on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
John Thibodeaux was first and foremost a husband and father. John graduated in LSUE's first Civil Engineering graduating class. He then worked as a supervisor for Boh Brothers and Cajun Contractors. He built most of the bridges in South Louisiana, including the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge as well as a bridge for Governor Edwin Edwards' camp in Forked Island, LA.
He and wife Donna were also the small business owners of "Handy Shop'' in Port Barre, LA. When John wasn't working, he enjoyed a game of Bourree', hunting deer and squirrel, dancing, playing checkers and gardening.
The day of John's funeral, June 26, 2018, marks the 42nd Anniversary of Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Donna.
John is survived by his son, Dustie Thibodeaux; brothers, Eddie Thibodeaux and his wife Betty and Aubrey Thibodeaux and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Marie Guidroz Thibodeaux; parents, T.J. Thibodeaux and Mary Lou Cortez Thibodeaux; brother, Althee Ray Thibodeaux and his sister-in-law, Rose Guidroz Thibodeaux.
The family will receive friends and family in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until rosary time at 3:30 p.m.
