A Mass of Christian Burial for John L. Red Speyrer will be held on Monday January 20, 2014 at 11:00am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington. Celebrating the Mass will be Fr. Austin Leger. Rite of Committal will take place at the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Speyrer, age 85, a resident of Washington, died Saturday January 18, 2014 at his residence. He was an active sportsman, with a passion for hunting, fishing and horses. He served his country in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. Throughout the community, he was known as a local bus driver as well as managing the Plaisance Water System for 20 plus years.
Red is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Emma Dupre Speyrer of Washington, sons, Neil Speyrer of Plaucheville,, Ronnie Speyrer and companion Kim Manuel of Eunice, Kyle Speyrer and wife Lisa of Opelousas, Darrin Speyrer and wife Cathy of Opelousas, daughter, Deneen Bourque and husband Eddie of Opelousas, brother, Huey P. Speyrer and wife Joann of Lafayette, 10 grandchildren, Chantel Speyrer, David Speyrer, Justin Speyrer, Casey Soileau, Nicole Carter, Blake Speyrer, Brandon Fontenot, Jessica Speyrer, Kelley Bourque and Tiffani Speyrer and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Moise and Mathilda Meche Speyrer, brother, Wilbert Speyrer and his sister, Helen Speyrer.
The family has requested visitation be held on Sunday January 19, , 2014 at the LafondArdoin Funeral Home in Opelousas from 5:00pm until 10:00pm and will reopen on Monday at 8:00am. A Rosary will be prayed on Sunday evening at 7:00pm.
