John David Russell, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 4:43 p.m., at his home surrounded by his loving family. Relatives, friends, faculty and staff of Lawtell Elementary and Northwest High School are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial conducted by Reverend Justin at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mallet, LA at 12 noon on Monday, January 26, 2015. Internment will take place at St. Ann's Church Cemetery following the service.
Johnny was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus as well as a Knight of St. Peter Claver. He was honored to volunteer as a crossing guard for both Lawtell Elementary School and the St. Ann/ Holy Family CCD program. He loved helping with events at both Lawtell Elementary and Northwest High School. Johnny loved the outdoors and fished and hunted whenever he could.
Mr. Russell, was a devoted and loving husband to Hollie Anna LeBlanc Russell for twenty-four and a half years. A loving father to John David Russell Jr., Cody Emmanuel Russell and the late Emma Louise Russell. Son of the late Emmanuel David and Emily Babineaux Russell. Paternal grandson of the late John William and Julia Olson Russell. Maternal grandson of the late Andrew Babineaux and Sophie Wichers. Brother of Julia Ann, Katheleen Rita and the late David Emmanuel Russell. Godfather of David Anderson Jr., and Connie Lee Thibodeaux. Honorary Paw-Paw of Adelynn Mae Castille. Brother-in-law of Joe Louis Agoff, David Anderson Sr., Vanessa and Edward Melancon, Gwyn and Glenn Martinez, Edie and Frank Sicuro Jr., Cecile Guidry, the late Marcel Leblanc, Karl and Karen LeBlanc, and Monica and David Johnson. Son-in-law of Emma Louise Leblanc and the late Carroll Thomas Leblanc. A devoted friend of Lisa Gadeaux, Jacob Deville, and Helen and Anthony Castille. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 4 p.m. until time of service on Monday, January 26, 2015. A rosary will be prayed by The Legion of Mary at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
