Funeral services for John Harold Kewley, age 84, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Gary Schexnayder will officiate services.
Mr. Kewley, a native of Howard, South Dakota, former resident of Vernon, Texas, and longtime resident of Opelousas, died on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 3:25 p.m. at his residence.
Mr. Kewley was very active in the community, having been a Rotarian, a member of the Lions Club, and a member of the St. Landry Catholic Church; he was a retired scout executive with the Boy Scouts of America, having served for over 25 years. After retirement John worked as an assistant manager of the largest grain elevator in south Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Myers Kewley of Opelousas dauther of Valrrie and Martha Myers; three sons, A.Glen Kewley of Boston, Mass., V. Keith Kewley of San Antonio, TX, and Steven Kewley and wife Juilie of Opelousas; one brother, Adelbert Kewley of Spanish Fort, Alabama; three grandchildren, Zachary and Spencer Kewley of Opelousas and Valerie Kaye Kewley of San Antonio, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, A.Delbert and Bertha Newmann Kewley; grandparents, Thomas and Margaret Kewley; three brothers, Charles, Gerald, and Clarence Kewley and four sisters, Ruth Grassmiser, Anna Rasmussen, Iris Kenyon and Bertha Collins.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home, Tuesday, November, 25, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. until service time on the same day.
