Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for John Allen Dupre will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, La., followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas. The Reverend James Brady will conduct the mass.
Mr. Dupre, age 67, a resident of Opelousas, died on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Opelousas General Health System.
He owned and operated Johns Amusement Company. He was a deputy with the St. Landry Parish Sheriffs Department and was a member of the Lucky 12 Hunting Club. He also worked for Lockheed in New Orleans in 1964, building control panels and engines for one of the first space shuttle projects.
John served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army and was in Germany with the 3rd Battalion 84th Field Artillery. He helped in building Persian Missiles during the cold war era, while stationed in Germany in 1965. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Guillory Dupre, of Opelousas, La. his sons, Scott Dupre and wife, Dayna, of Prairie Ronde, La. Shane Dupre of Opelousas, La. his brothers, Dalvest Dupre of Opelousas, La. and Ronald Dupre of Washington, La. He is also survived by one grandchild, Hunter James Dupre.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hillaire and Lena Dupre.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on 8:00 a.m. on Thursday until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
