John Phillip Burleigh, known to many as "Phil," passed away on July 18, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, compassion, and love. Born on April 23, 1957, in Church Point, Louisiana, Phil was the beloved son of John Benjamin Burleigh and Velma Olivier Burleigh.

Over the course of his life, Phil dedicated himself to a career at CLM Equipment Company for an impressive 42 years.

It was within the realm of diesel repair work that he truly found his passion, with a particular fondness for fixing tractors. Phil's expertise and commitment to his craft were evident in all the tasks he undertook.

Phil had an incredible knack for helping people selflessly without expecting anything in return. Those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him experienced his genuine warmth and kindness firsthand. Those close to him often remarked that he didn't make friends; instead he made family.

Outside of work, Phil found joy in the presence of his loving family, his cherished grandchildren and dear friends. His face would light up with delight as he spent time with Clara and Lillian Richard, Harper and Lilah Burleigh. The bond they shared brought immense happiness to Phil's life.

To honor and remember Phil's well-lived life, visitation services will take place on July 21, 2023, at Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas beginning at 9:30 AM and concluding at 1:30 PM. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM at St. Bridget Catholic Church, with Father Mark Ledoux officiating the service. The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery.

Phil's memory will forever be carried in the hearts of his surviving family and friends. He leaves behind his son, Bryce Burleigh and his wife, Autumn, of Sunset; his daughter, Morgan Burleigh Richard, of Lawtell; his sister, Peggy Schmidt and her husband, Dale; and his grandchildren, Clara Richard, Harper Burleigh, Lillian Richard and Lilah Burleigh.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Benjamin Burleigh and Velma Olivier Burleigh; his sister, Susan Hayes and her husband, Henry.

May John Phillip Burleigh rest in eternal peace and may his spirit continue to live on through the memories he left behind.
