John Barras

Opelousas Funeral services for John Johnny Edward Barras will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2011, in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, La., followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La. Brother Dave Beverly will conduct the services.

Mr. Barras, age 52, a resident of Opelousas, La. died on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at his residence in Opelousas.

John was selfemployed as a farmer and also worked as a detective with the St. Landry Parish Sheriffs Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and attended trade school where he learned computers, welding and diesel mechanic. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Carla Prudhomme Barras of Lawtell, La. his son, John Alex Alexander Barras of Lawtell, La. his daughter, Savannah Jenee Barras of Opelousas, La. and his brother, Lester L.J. Joseph Barras, Jr. of Sunset, La.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Doris Barras and Lester Joseph Barras, Sr. his grandmother, Rita Ryder Devillier and his brother, Sydney Barras.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
