Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018 at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Monsignor Russell Harrington will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

Joel Allen Comeaux, Sr., age 82 and a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at his residence.

Pop, a "character", is what we like to think of. A man who loved everyone and would help anyone in need. In his younger days you could find him at Dominick's Stockyards during the weekdays buying cattle. In summertime, at his camp with all his family and grandkids watching the kids play and watching his wife, "Mom", fish while he cooked. He was at church on Sunday's with all of his family and they were over to eat after. Wintertime, he was at his hunting camp with all of his boys, hunting deer. Holidays were nothing short of fun, food and laughter. He lived for his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids who brought him the most joy. He will always be remembered as a family man, a man who loved his Sunday Mass and who loved to play jokes on everyone. We will miss his smile, love and laughter, but we know his is now united with the love of his life, who he has missed since the day she passed. He couldn't wait to see her again. We will miss you and love you forever, our sweet, Pop.

He is survived by his sons, Joel Allen Comeaux, Jr. (Connie), Robert "Bobby" Comeaux (Angel), Michael "Mike" Comeaux and David Comeaux (Jill); mothers of his grandchildren, Charisse T. Comeaux, Madelyn Comeaux and Pam Comeaux; grandchildren, Joel Allen Comeaux, III, Jeremy Comeaux, Candice Comeaux Alexander, Robert Comeaux, Christie Comeaux Nicholas, Jason Comeaux, Charisse Catherine "CeCe" Comeaux Mouton, Christopher Comeaux, Casey Comeaux, Ashley Comeaux, Andrew Comeaux and Caroline Comeaux; and great-grandchildren, Addison Comeaux, Hayden Comeaux, Ben Comeaux, JAC Comeaux, Christian Comeaux, Charlotte Comeaux Beau; Eve Alexander, Grace Alexander, Tristan Alexander, Lane Comeaux, Collin Comeaux, Wayne Allen Nicholas, Brendan Nicholas, Isabella Mouton, Zane Mouton, Channing Comeaux, Carrington Comeaux and Abelynn Comeaux.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Catherine Johnson Comeaux; parents, Isabel Boudreaux Comeaux and Hugues "Pappy" Comeaux; brothers, Anthony "Toni" Comeaux and Aubrey Comeaux; and sister, Grace Comeaux.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening by Deacon Sammy Diesi. Visitation will continue on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Joel Comeaux, III, Jeremy Comeaux, Jason Comeaux, Robert Comeaux, Casey Comeaux, Christopher Comeaux and Andrew Comeaux.
