Port Barre - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 1, 2019, for Jimmy Wilfred Marks, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre, LA. Reverend Fr. Clint Trahan will Celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will be held at the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery.
Mr. Marks, age 81, a resident of Lafayette, LA, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.
Jimmy was a U. S. Air Force Veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. He was member of the American Legion Post 69. He enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled helicopters and airplanes. He loved telling life stories to his family and friends and arguing about politics to anyone who would listen. Jimmy will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Yvonne Antie Marks, of Lafayette, LA; his daughters, Lyndia Marks Nezat of Port Barre, LA; Glyndia Marks Duplechain and spouse, Jimmy Soileau, of Port Barre, LA; Peggy Matte of Waxahachie, TX; his brother, Gerald Marks, Jr. of Leonville, LA; his sister, Virgie Marks Antie and husband, Herbert "Frog" Antie, of Port Barre, LA. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Marks, Sr. and Bernadette Robin Marks; his son, Jimmy Wilfred Marks, Jr. and his son-in-law, Steven Craig Nezat, Sr.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas and will reopen on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM. A rosary will be prayed on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM in the funeral home.
