Washington - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jerry Conrad Vidrine at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, La. Reverend Matthew Higginbotham will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Prairie Ronde, La.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jerry Conrad Vidrine, age 87, on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Opelousas General Hospital.
Jerry served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War and also served in the Army Reserves. He worked as the Foreman of Operations at American Compress for 16 years and worked 21 years as a shift foreman for FMC Corporation. His Catholic faith was very important to him. He prayed his rosary weekly with the Plaisance Rosary Group. He was also a member of the Washington Chapter of the VFW. Jerry also enjoyed being in the woods hunting or on the water fishing. He loved playing music, the guitar and harmonica. He enjoyed his time with friends playing Bouree with his group at the Quarters Casino. He also enjoyed being outside tending to his tomato plants, bell peppers, cucumbers, and his cats. Mostly, Jerry will be remembered for being a kind and hardworking man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lee Sonnier Vidrine, of Opelousas, La.; his son, Michael Kelly Vidrine and wife, Andrea, of Grand Prairie, La.; his daughters, Belinda Kay Hawks and husband, Brad, of Fenton, Michigan and Marla Rae Gibson and husband, Skipper, of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Allen Hawks and spouse, Michael Prichard; Travis Hawks; Ashley Gibson and fiancé, Ryan Marshall; Paige Massey and husband, Chance; Morgan Kigerl and husband, Thomas; and Luke Vidrine. He is also survived by one great-grandchild, Aspen Marshall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Vidrine and Ada Dupre Vidrine and his brothers, Ronald Steve Vidrine and John E. Vidrine.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. by the Plaisance Rosary Group. The funeral home will re-open on Friday, December 9, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:15 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Skipper Gibson, Brad Hawks, Travis Hawks, Allen Hawks, Mike Vidrine and Luke Vidrine. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Collins and Kelly Mayeaux.
