Mr. Jerald “Jerry” L. Thompson, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Senior Village Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89. He was born on May 23, 1935, in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Jerry was an honorable, man who devoted his life to his family and community.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerald “Jerry” Thompson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Monsignor Jeff DeBlanc will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will be at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, Louisiana.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening in the funeral home and recited by Monsignor Jeff DeBlanc. The Opelousas Elks Lodge service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The funeral home will reopen for visitation on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Jerry lived a life filled with love, laughter, and hard work. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After serving his country, he went to work offshore, where he worked for ODECO and Diamond Offshore for 30+ years.
Once he entered his retirement, he spent his time doing woodwork, planting in his garden, visiting with his neighbors, eating tons of Blue Bell ice cream, and living his life to the fullest. Jerry was devoted Catholic and member of the Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He attended two weekly Rosary Groups. Jerry was also a long-standing member of the Opelousas Elks Lodge #1048.
He was married to his loving, devoted wife, Jeanell for 48 years. Together they raised three amazing children: one son and two daughters.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jeanell “Tiny” Thompson, his two daughters, Christine Courville and fiancé, Rodney Lalonde and Karen Cobb and fiancé, Chris Quebedeaux; one granddaughter, Heather Turner and husband, Jason; two grandsons, Dylan Chachere and wife, Gabrielle; and Kolby Courville; and four great-grandchildren, Kooper Turner, Kynzi Turner, Mercy Albarado, and Mars Chachere. As well as, his living fur daughter, Abby, survives him.
He is proceeded in death by his son, Keith Gile; his mother, Vera Stewart and stepfather, Victor Harry; and sister, Linda Hagga.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Lalonde, Chris Quebedeaux, Jason Turner, Kooper Turner, Dylan Chachere, and Kolby Courville.
The family would like to send special thanks to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care and Senior Village Nursing Home for the care that was given to Jerry.
Jerry will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.
