Jeral Peter Fontenot, age 81, was born on March 3, 1943, in Whitehall, Louisiana and passed away peacefully at his residence in Krotz Springs, Louisiana, on December 23, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was a cherished member of his community and a beloved family man who will forever be in the hearts of those who knew him.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jeral dedicated many years of his life to the construction industry, working as a roofer with the local roofer’s union. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, an experience he often reflected upon with great pride. A devoted father and grandfather, Jeral’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. 

Jeral had a profound love for storytelling, often sharing tales from his youth and his military service, captivating his family and friends alike. He is remembered for his love of listening to oldies music, which brought him immense joy. His passion for the outdoors, particularly rabbit hunting, allowed him to connect with nature and create fond memories. 

He is survived by his sons, Joey Fontenot and his wife Mille; Philip Ray Fontenot and his fiance’, Katie; and Mark Todd Fontenot; his daughter, Melissa Ann Naquin; his brothers, Buck Fontenot, Roger Fontenot and his wife Marie; Danny Fontenot; and his sister, Regina Fontenot. He was a beloved grandfather to eleven grandchildren, including Julius Gregoire, Alena Fontenot, Emily Fontenot, Zata Lanclos, Austin Fontenot, Chailynn Fontenot, Gracelynn Majors, K LeFeaux, Aireal Bowman, Alex Bowman, and Brayden Bowman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Fontenot and Eunice Deslatte Fontenot; his sisters, Lucinda Rainey and Verla Fontenot Hayman; and his sister-in-law, Leanna Fontenot and daughter-in-law, Stacey Fontenot. Their memories live on in the stories he cherished and shared with those he loved.

Jeral Peter Fontenot's warmth, humor, and wisdom will be missed deeply by all who were privileged to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and remembrance that will be cherished by his family for generations to come.
