James Mervine Pellissier

Opelousas - Funeral services will be held for James Mervine Pellissier at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 21, 2019, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, LA.  Reverend Austin Leger will conduct the services.  Interment will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 1:30 PM by Deacon Sammy Diesi.

Mr. Pellissier, age 78, a resident of Opelousas, LA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Opelousas General Health System.

Mervine was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas.  He was employed by Chevron for 25 years and then went on to be a truck driver for eight years with Gulfcoast Machine until his retirement.  Mervine loved watching old western movies and spending time with his family.  He enjoyed going on family vacations, eating out, family gatherings and traveling to see his children wherever they lived.  Mervine will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Inez Barousse Pellissier, of Opelousas, LA; his son, David Pellissier and wife, Janice, of Everett, WA; his daughters, Denise Pellissier Dupuis and fiancé, Mark Fontenot, of Opelousas, LA; Amy Pellissier Granger of Albuquerque, NM; his sisters, Claudette Morgan of Egan, LA; Virginia Kebodeaux and husband, Joe, of Iota, LA; Gretal Davis and husband, Ricky, of Tennessee; his brother, Charles Pellissier of Maurice, LA; his sisters-in-law, Carolyn Barousse Wimberly and husband, Harvey, of Opelousas, LA and Judy Barousse Ortego and husband, Warren, of Houma, LA.  He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jennifer Reed, Katherine Richard, Aaron Dupuis, Hanad Pellissier, Ebyan Pellissier, Harun Pellissier and three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Avery and Daniel Richard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Elodie Pellissier; his brother, Larry Pellissier; his brother-in-law, Mitchell Morgan and his sister-in-law, Heidi Pellissier.

Pallbearers will be David Pellissier, Mark Fontenot, Harvey Wimberly, Aaron Dupuis, Paul Richard and Jimmie Fontenot.
