James Troy Whipp known to many as “Troy” died on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at home surrounded in love by his family in Opelousas, Louisiana at the age of 56.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lisa Bullara Whipp; his sons, Logan (Kaylee) Whipp, Jake (McKenzie) Whipp, and Aaron (Laura) Whipp; his brother, Kent (Bessie) Whipp; his granddaughters, Annalise Whipp and Aliza Whipp, and unborn grandson, Ezekiel Whipp. He is welcomed into eternal life by his parents, Bonneal and Mildred Whipp; brothers, Neal Whipp and Brandon Whipp; and sister, Lisa Whipp Perrodin, who were all of Opelousas.
Troy was born July 5, 1967, to Bonneal and Mildred Whipp of Opelousas. He was a much beloved brother whose rambunctious spirit infused fun and mischief into the family. He grew up fishing and hunting on their property in Lawtell. He graduated from Opelousas Catholic School in 1985 and continued his education with a degree in Psychology in 1991 from University of Southwest Louisiana. He married the love of his life, Lisa Bullara in 1990 and they welcomed three boys into their union. Troy worked at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse in Opelousas until he and Lisa opened Whipps’ Family Pharmacy in Opelousas in 1993. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.
Troy’s dedication and love for his family pushed him to overcome physical challenges. He loved watching his boys play ball and spent many weekends traveling with their select teams to tournaments across the South. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and watching his grandchildren grow. As a pastime, he had a successful vegetable garden filled with tomatoes, watermelon, and broccoli. He also enjoyed spending time on the computer, playing games and following his passion of editing photographs of family and friends.
His respect and love for his wife Lisa was immense, and it was reciprocated in the persistent, dignified care she offered to him. They were truly made for each other. He had a humble personality filled with patience; and he never complained about anything.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Acadiana and Lauren Lavergne, Rhonda Godeaux, Nelda Fisher, and Micky Bellamine for their excellent care and all others who have assisted in Troy’s care in the past. So many people have touched our lives and we are extremely grateful and thankful to everyone who has helped us throughout the years. We want all of you to know that you are always in our thoughts.
