James Wallace

A Mass of Christian burial will be held for James "Jim" Edward Wallace, age 78, at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Opelousas. Reverend James Brady will conduct the Mass. Rite of Committal will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jim, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Jim attended Castle Heights Military Academy from 1948 until his graduation in 1956. He went on to serve his country proudly as a member of the United States Army. Jim continued his education at Tennessee Tech where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Science. He was president of the International Sertoma Club and a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Louisiana. He was also a parishioner, confirmation teacher and Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Queen of Angels in Opelousas. Jim enjoyed golfing, watching LSU and serving his church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannine Chachere Wallace of Opelousas, LA; his son, James Van Wallace and wife, Heather of Opelousas, LA; his daughters, Meredyth Wallace of Lafayette, LA, Kathryn Wallace of Lafayette, LA, Adrienne Screen and husband, Tommy of New Orleans, LA; his brother, Steve Wallace of Sunset Beach, NC; his sister, Rosalyn Travers of Long Island, NY; his grandchildren, Jack Wallace, Betsy Wallace, Bennett Wallace, Kate Wallace, McCall Screen and Molly Screen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Maxine Wallace and his sister, Jo Wallace Hutcheson.

Visitation will be held at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Sammy Diesi at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The funeral home will reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Donald Chachere, Jr., Jack Wallace, Wayne Guidry, Byron Briggs, Tommy Screen and David Prochaska. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Luke Bordelon, Douglas Chachere, Sr., Bennett Wallace and McCall Screen.

The family would like to offer special thanks to all of Jims' private caretakers, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and the nurses and staff of Louisiana Hospice and Pallative Care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Jims' name, P.O Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
