Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for James "Tony" Fontenot at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2015, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Rite of Committal will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA. Reverend James Brady will celebrate the Mass.
Mr. Fontenot, age 72, a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at his residence.
Tony retired after 35 years from Shell Oil as a Production Operator. He later worked as a security guard for Opelousas General Health System for 10 years and Whitney Bank for 2 years. In October of 2014 he began working for Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Homes and Sibille Funeral Homes.
Tony was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching LSU Football. He was a very outgoing person. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, going to the casino and loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 51 1/2 years, Drucie Fontenot, of Opelousas, LA; his son, Troy Fontenot and wife, Keely Trosclair Fontenot, of Broussard, LA; his daughter, Shawna Fontenot of Opelousas, LA; five grandchildren, Dutch Fontenot, Amber Fontenot, Hayden Fontenot, Carson Fontenot, Brandt Fontenot and one great-grandchild, Brayson Fontenot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Caro Fontenot and Della Mae Soileau Fontenot; his paternal grandparents, Caro Fontenot and Viv Fontenot and his maternal grandparents, Emile and Lil Soileau.
Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Thursday, October 29, 2015, from 3:30 p.m. (open all night) until time of service on Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Hayden Fontenot, Dutch Fontenot, Jason Fontenot, Lester Daire, Wayne Vidrine and Nick Vidrine. Honorary pallbearers will be Christian Miller, Carson Fontenot, Brandt Fontenot, David Daire and Daniel Daire.
The family would like to thank Louisiana Hospice, especially, Mr. Guy Perrodin for the great care he provided the family.
