PRAIRIE RONDE

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for James Harry Lafleur, age 75, at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2011 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prairie Ronde with interment in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Prairie Ronde. The Rev. Austin Leger will officiate at the services.

Mr. Lafleur passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family and friends after a long battle with cancer. Harry was a native and lifelong resident of Prairie Ronde. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2000, after 34 years of service as a letter carrier. He was on the Bayou Mallet Plaquemine Drainage Board for 15 years.

Harry was a dedicated husband and father. He was married to Jacqueline Marie Caillouet Lafleur for 53 years. Together they had 7 children: Joey Michael and wife, Cindy Ledoux Lafleur of Prairie Ronde, Jimmy Lafleur and his wife Karen Dupre Lafleur of Prairie Ronde, Marla Lafleur Pitre deceased and her husband Chad from Washington, LA, Angela Lafleur Fortier, and her husband Francis of Prairie Ronde, Lori Lafleur Bratton and her husband Michael from Ponchatoula, Stephen Lafleur and his wife Fran Leger Lafleur of Prairie Ronde, and Frederick Freddie Lafleur and his wife Connie Quebedeaux Lafleur of Opelousas. He had 19 grandchildren, Matthew, Morgan, McKenzie Lafleur, Mallie, Blaine, Tyler Lafleur Kyle, Seth, Russ Bratton Cody, Evan, Lindy Fortier Brooke, Dustin, Anna, Joshua Lafleur Ellie, Grace, Aiden Lafleur and 2 great grand children, Brooks Everett Lafleur and Andrew Kai Talevich. He was also survived by a brother, Andrew and his wife Suzie in California.

Harry was an avid cattle and hay farmer and he loved riding horses or riding in wagons pulled by mules or horses. He also loved to spend time with his many friends and relatives at family gatherings in his metal building named the Harry Dome, for holidays, Super Bowls, and birthday parties.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Teurling and Alma Doucet Lafleur, a brother, Alvin Black Lafleur, a sister, Mildred Lafleur Joubert, and a daughter, Marla Lafleur Pitre.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Saturday at the LafondArdoin Funeral Home on Highway 182.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011 and from 8:00 a.m. until the service time on Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Joey Lafleur, Jimmy Lafleur, Stephen Lafleur and Freddie Lafleur, Matthew Lafleur, Blaine Lafleur, Tyler Lafleur and Kyle Bratton. Honorary pallbearers will be Seth Bratton, Russ Bratton, Cody Fortier and Evan Fortier.

The family would like to thank the home health and Louisiana Hospice caregivers for the compassionate care that Mr. Lafleur received.
