James Ortego

Funeral Mass for Mr. James Jim Ortego will be held at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, on Saturday, November 10, 2007, at 1:00PM, followed by interment in Bellevue Memorial Park. The Rev. Richard Broussard will conduct the services.

Mr. Ortego, age 72, died at 12:54AM on Friday at Savoy Memorial Medical Center in Mamou. He was a resident of Pine Prairie, formerly of Opelousas. He was a past member of Jaycees, Knights of Columbus Council 1548 in Pine Prairie and was also active in Boy Scouts and was the first State Farm agent in Opelousas. He retired from State Farm in 1975.

Mr. Ortego is survived by a son; Dr. Rick Ortego and his wife Venise of Opelousas, a daughter; Christine Anne Ortego Edmond of Opelousas, a brother; Robert Bob Anthony Ortego of Humble, TX. He is also survived by 4 granddaughters; Katie Edmond, Leigha Ortego, Monette Ortego and Julianne Ortego, 2 grandsons; Jason Deville and Phillip Edmond and 3 great-grandchildren; Jaci, Logan and Emily Deville. He was preceded in death by his wife; Emma Jean Meche Ortego, parents; Moise Ortego and Ednis Fontenot Ortego and 1 grandchild; John Richard Ortego.

The family has requested that visitation will be observed on Friday, November 9 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Pine Prairie from 3:30 PM to 8:00PM and will continue on Saturday at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Highway in Opelousas from 9:00AM until time of service. A rosary will be recited on Friday, at 7:30PM at St. Peters Catholic Church.
