Opelousas Funeral services for James Phillip Phil Onnebane, age 70, will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas followed by interment in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Paul Bienvenu will conduct the services.
Mr. Onnebane, a resident of Humble, Texas and native of Opelousas, La., was best known for opening the very first convenience store as owner of the PHILASAK store chain of the 1960s and 1970s, passed away at Triumph Hospital in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, July 20, 2010.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Onnebane Oneal of Lafayette, three daughters, Dr. Rhonda Onnebane Halder of Kenner, La. Paulette Onnebane Taylor of St. Martinville, La. Michelle Onnebane Gilger of Katy, Texas one son, Edward Lee Onnebane of Denham Springs, La. and 16 grandchildren, 3 greatgrandchildren, 3 nieces, 3 nephews and numerous greatnieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Onnebane his beloved mother, Elizabeth Cannatella Onnebane and a daughter, Pippa Lynn Onnebane.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010 until funeral time.
