James Mackey

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. for James Monroe "Buddy" Mackey on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, La. Reverend Gregory Simien will Celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Mackey, age 71, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Buddy was a proud veteran of the United States Airforce. He loved serving on the Altar at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his boys and his grandchildren. He especially loved watching and following his grandchildren's baseball and volleyball games. One of his greatest accomplishments was being chosen "Man of the Year" by Opelousas Catholic School. Buddy will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Fontenot Mackey; his sons, Troy Mackey and wife, Brenda; Toby Mackey and wife, Aimee; his sisters, Jeanette Bourgeois, Jimmie Rae Cropper and Arlene Reviere. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Trevor Mackey, Emily Michelle Mackey, Brennan John Mackey, Macy Canon, Sara Canon and Morgan Quirk.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Marjorie Perry Mackey; his brother, Wendell Perry and his sister, Sylvia Mackey Darbonne.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas with a Rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. by Reverend Austin Leger. The funeral home will reopen on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Troy Mackey, Toby Mackey, Vince Fontenot, Dale Darbonne, Danny Soileau, Kip Bertrand and honorary pallbearers will be Brennan Mackey, "Bootsie" Devillier and "Lapin" Bertrand.
