James "Jimmy" William Marks, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on November 16, 2023, in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was surrounded by his loving family as he peacefully transitioned from this world.
Born on October 24, 1950, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jimmy lived a life filled with passion and dedication. He began his career as a welder and fabricator, honing his skills with precision and craftsmanship. His hard work led him to serve the St. Landry Sheriff's Department, where he contributed his talents for the betterment of his community.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Jimmy also shared his knowledge and expertise by teaching welding and carpentry for 25 years in the St. Landry parish school system. His commitment to education left an incredible mark on countless students who continue to carry his teachings into their own lives and careers.
Jimmy had a range of hobbies and interests that delighted those around him. He found solace in the great outdoors through hunting and fishing adventures. Music held a special place in his heart as he had a passion for playing music with his brother, Jean and entertaining others. Whether it was strumming a guitar or singing along with friends and family, his talent brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to witness it.
It was also no secret that Jimmy loved to cook and also loved to eat. Creating a delicious meal was one way he showed his love to his family and friends.
One of Jimmy's greatest joys was embarking on exciting journeys with his wife Debbie. They bonded over their shared love for motorcycle rides and camping trips. Through these experiences, they created cherished memories that will forever be held close by those who knew them best.
Above all else, Jimmy was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. Their accomplishments and milestones filled him with joy and pride. As a devoted father and grandfather, he showered them with love and support throughout their lives.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, Jean Merrick and Lizzie Mae Badeaux Marks; his brother, Jean Harold Marks; his sister, Linda Marks Dreher; and his furbaby, Max.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Debbie Woodson Marks, whose unwavering love and support were a constant source of strength for Jimmy. He is also survived by his son, James Blake Marks and his wife, Stacey; his daughter, Melissa Marks Lee and her husband, Greg; his brother, Timothy Jude Marks and his wife, Cindy; his sister, Christine Marks Roy and her husband, Charlie; his grandchildren, Dylan Paul Lee and his wife, Kelsey, Macie Manuel and her husband, Garrett, Chloe Marks, and Logan Marks; his great-grandchildren, Lucas Matthew Manuel and Harper Grace Lee; his godmother, Anna Jane Marks; his fur babies, T-Boy and Jackson; as well as numerous other family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Deacon Ulysse Joubert officiating.
James "Jimmy" William Marks will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, a respected teacher, and a cherished friend. His legacy of hard work, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
