A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. James D. Gibson, Sr., age 82, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, followed by interment in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA. The Reverend Paul Bienvenu will be the Celebrant.
Mr. Gibson, who was born in Washington, died on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at his Opelousas residence surrounded by his family.
Mr. Gibson devoted his life to his family and volunteered countless hours coaching Little League, where his teams accomplished 2 undefeated championships at South City Park in Opelousas. He will be remembered for his humor and embellished stories. He worked for Dimmick Supply for 45 years until retirement and was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Monteilh Gibson 3 children, Denise Marrero and husband Dennis, Greg Gibson and wife Annette, and Lance Gibson and wife Donna 9 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren and one sister, Judith Duckworth.
He is preceded in death by a son, James D. Jamie Gibson, Jr. and an infant daughter, Melissa Clare Gibson parents, Charles J. Gibson, Sr. and Wilda Sonnier Gibson a brother, C.J. Gibson, Jr. two sisters, Ethelyn Reeves and Ursula Cindy Quirk.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Gibson, Lance Gibson, Matthew Marrero, Jordan Gibson, Peyton Gibson and William Gibson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Members of the 28th General Hospital Association and Jamie Gibson, Jr.

Visiting hours will begin on Monday, February 25. 2013 in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home in Opelousas from 2:0010:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday until service time.
