Funeral services for James Leslie Cloward, Sr, age 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2011, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Opelousas, LA, followed by interment in the St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau, LA. Bishop Thad Schlosser will conduct the service.
Mr. Cloward, who was a native of Genola, Utah and a resident of Opelousas, died on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Opelousas General Health System.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He was the Branch President and the Missionary Branch President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He and his wife Bertha assisted new missionaries entering the local branch and assisted in other states. He attended Carmel Art School and studied oil painting. Jim was a master gardener, a humanitarian, and he loved children. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Bertha Landry Cloward, of Opelousas, La. his sons, James Leslie Cloward, Jr. and wife, Eileen, of Provo, Utah Ashley B. Cloward and wife, Cheryl, of Romona, California Geary Wayne Cloward of Loxatchee, Florida William Charles Cloward and wife, Gilena, of Mesquite, Nevada David George Cloward of Murry, Utah his daughters, Nancy Euginia DeMille and husband, Gail, of Monroe, Utah Patricia Ann Dunn and husband, James, of Gonzales, La. and Barbara Euphraise Roberts and husband, Paul, of Draper, Utah. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 31 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his ten brothers and sisters.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Monday, August 29, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday until service time.
