Jacques Marc Royal, an engineer and esteemed author, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, in Arnaudville, Louisiana, at the age of 88. Born on April 12, 1936, in France. A private family gathering was held in Jacques’s memory. Jacques was a man of remarkable intellect and creativity. His passion for engineering led him to play a significant role in the development of the first heart pacemaker in his home country, a testament to his dedication to improving lives through technology.
An accomplished scholar, Jacques held several degrees that underscored his commitment to learning, innovation and education. He served with honor in the French military, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong sense of duty and service.
Throughout his life, Jacques harbored a deep love for travel and gardening, often seeking out new horizons and cultivating beauty in his surroundings. His enthusiasm extended to working on home improvements, where he expressed his creativity and craftsmanship. Jacques took great pride in almost rebuilding their home in France and was actively involved in enhancing his residence in Arnaudville. He also enjoyed good food and good wine to share with his family and friends.
In addition to his engineering feats, Jacques was a prolific writer, authoring four notable books about Louisiana history, written in both English and French. His passion for the rich culture and heritage of his adopted state illuminated the lives of those who read his books and see his exhibitions, showcasing his dedication to preserving and sharing stories that resonated with many.
More than anything, Jacques loved his family dearly. His wife, Pauline, reflects on their life saying "God made him from His best mold. Jacques was so loving, caring, patient and gentle. He was truly my soul mate and we loved each other from our core and with our whole hearts. I know God welcomed him with open arms and I know he'll keep watch over me and his loved ones while he patiently waits for me to join him in our eternal home."
Jacques is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Sanders Royal; his step-children, Katharine "Kathy" Lynell Jamison and Fred Linwood Jamison II and his wife, Beryl; his step-granddaughter, Victoria and her husband, Juston, and their daughter, Scarlett; Jacques sons, Christophe Royal and Alain Royal and his wife, Caroline; his daughter, Florence Job and her husband, Eric; his brother, Michel Royal; his sisters, Monique Adam and her husband, Marc, and Marie-Jo Meilhan; his grandchildren, Juliette, Charlotte, Alice and Louis; and a host of nephews, nieces and beloved friends, especially the one who called him Jakco.
Jacques Marc Royal, an accomplished scholar, leaves behind a legacy that intertwines innovation, literature, and an ever-present love for family and friends. His spirit will be dearly missed, but his contributions to both the fields of engineering and literature will undoubtedly endure in the hearts of many.
