A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Irvin Lee Deranger at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Charles of Borromeo Mausoleum in Grand Coteau, LA. Monsignor Keith DeRouen, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church will celebrate the Mass.
Readers for the Mass will be Jimmy Dauzat and Jack Proffitt. Gift bearers will be Mr. Deranger's granddaughters, Taylor Deranger, Charlotte Doragh, Allie Deranger, and Amelie Doragh.
Mr. Deranger, age 84, was born in Leonville, LA and died peacefully at his home in Opelousas, LA on Friday, May 13, 2016.
Irvin Lee Deranger was a man who gave of himself for the betterment of his family, country, and community. In 1951 he graduated from Opelousas High School and began his college education at S.L.I., where he graduated in 1955 with a B.S. in Accounting. He joined the U.S. Army in 1955 and served his country proudly. Irvin then attended U.S.L. and graduated in 1962 with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Deranger worked until his retirement in 1997 for the Louisiana Department of Transportation as a District Construction Engineer. He also owned and operated his own survey company.
As a civic leader, Irvin wore many hats; from the President of the U.L. chapter of Civil Engineering Society, Lector at St. Charles Catholic Church, usher at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, President of the St. Ignatius School PTA and school board, President and Charter member of the Sunset/Grand Coteau Sertoma Club as well as District Governor of Sertoma International.
He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus from 1964 until his passing. He served as Financial Secretary, Grand Knight, and Faithful Navigator of the Most Reverend Jules B. Jeanmard Assembly 326. The Knights of Columbus honored Mr. and Mrs. Deranger's family with the Family of the Year Award.
Irvin enjoyed L.S.U. football games and tailgating where he always seemed to provide the best boudin. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his true love was his beloved family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved his gentle spirit, big heart and his willingness to serve others.
Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Doucet Deranger; his children, Kaye Deranger Doragh and husband Philip, Scott D. Deranger and wife Toni Guidroz Deranger and Wendy A. Deranger; sisters, Betty Emon and Leola Doucet; grandchildren, Taylor Deranger, Nicholas Deranger, Allie Deranger, Charlotte Doragh and Amelie Doragh.
He is preceded in death by his parents Moise Deranger, Sr. and Marie Bergeron Deranger; siblings, Theophile Deranger, Evelyn Guilbeau, Xavier Deranger, Velma Lanclos, Valerie Deranger, Percy Deranger, Moise Deranger, Jr, Fannie Morain, Virgie Stelly and Shirley Deshotel.
Pallbearers will be Scott Deranger, Nicholas Deranger, Philip Doragh, Gerard Charles, Kyle Doucet, Ricky Soileau and Lee Deranger. Honorary pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus Opelousas Council 11270.
Visiting will begin in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 4:00- 8:30 p.m. with a Rosary lead by Deacon Sammy Diesi and Knights of Columbus service beginning at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Monday at 8:00 a.m. until service time.
