Irma Gloria Celestino Olivares

Kaplan – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Irma Olivares, age 80, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery in Kaplan.  Rev. Fr. Mark Miley will celebrate the Mass.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 602 Church Avenue, Kaplan, LA.  A Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. in the church.

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Mrs. Irma Gloria Celestino Olivares on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Maison du Monde in Abbeville. Irma was born in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico and was a life-long resident of Kaplan.  She was a parishioner of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Abbeville where she attended the Spanish Masses regularly.  Her devout Catholic faith led her to pray the rosary daily for friends and family. She was a homemaker and sat with the elderly for many years.  She helped care for her grandchildren throughout the years. She loved her family deeply and always enjoyed spending time with them.  Visiting with her friends and family would bring her so much joy, especially if it was family events, weddings, quinceaneras, reunions, holidays, or graduations.  She enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers as a pastime.  She enjoyed going play Bingo, visiting the Casino, and eating out at restaurants for her birthday. She will forever be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Silvestre Olivares, Sr. of Piedras Negras, Mexico; her sons, Silvestre “Chuy” Olivares, Jr. and Anne-Marie; and Michael “Miguel” Olivares and wife, Mandi of Lafayette; her daughters, Olivia Champagne and husband, Kirk of Kaplan; Alma Morrow of Cankton; and Cynthia Richard and husband, Dusty of Kaplan; sisters, Olivia “Martha” Perez of Carrizo Springs, TX; Leticia “Letty” Gallet and husband, Robert of Abbeville; and Anna Laura Ramirez of Kaplan; brothers, Jose Sergio “Pepe” Celestino of San Antonio; Jose “Mario” Celestino of Lafayette; Francisco “Frank” Javier Ramirez of Kaplan; and Jose “Palillo” Celestino, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren: Lauren C. David and husband, Brad; Jacob Champagne and wife, Kaitlyn; Andrew Champagne and wife, Taylor; Erin Olivares, Jordy Olivares, Justin Guidry, Kiley Olivares, Amethyst Olivares, Sophia Spadoni, Landon Olivares, Addison Olivares, Jude Olivares, Amber Richard, and Phillip Richard; and great-grandchildren: Samantha David, Isabelle David, Beau Champagne, Eli Champagne, Gemma Dixon, Finnick Champagne, and Theodore Champagne; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jose Celestino, Sr.; mother, Maria Louisa Martinez Ramirez; and stepfather, Francisco Ramirez; sister, Olga Rocha; infant sisters, Josefina Celestino, Blanca Celestino, Norma Alicia Ramirez; infant brother, Mario Celestino; her grandparents, Lino Martinez and Julia Ovalle Martinez; and Marcos Celestino and Gertudes Martinez Celestino; and nephews, Marcello Perez and Mario Celestino.

Pallbearers will be Silvestre Olivares, Jr., Michael Olivares, Jacob Champagne, Andrew Champagne, Jordy Olivares, Landon Olivares, and Phillip Richard.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Kirk Champagne, Dusty Richard, and Justin Guidry.  

The family would like to extend special thanks and their sincerest gratitude to the entire staff of Maison Du Monde and Amedisys Hospice for their wonderful medical care and attention provided to their mother.
