Horace Lafleur

Opelousas-Services for Horace Lafleur, age 85, will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, Louisiana. Father Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services.

Mr. Lafleur, a native of Ville Platte, former resident of Opelousas and resident of Zachary, died on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 3:48 a.m. at his residence.

Mr. Lafleur was the owner and operator of Lafleurs Grocery and Market on West Grolee Street for 22 years. He served in the Pacific Theatre in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Cortez Lafleur of Zachary, La. formerly of Opelousas, La.; his son, Horace Bubba Lafleur, Jr. and his wife, Geraldine, of Opelousas, La.; his daughter, Judy Lafleur Simmons and her husband, Rodney, of Zachary, La.; two brothers, Russell Lafleur of Lafayette, La. and Teurling Lafleur of Ville Platte, La. He is survived by his five grandchildren, Van Vidrine, Angela Miller, Horace Joseph Lafleur, Dustin Ross Lafleur and Valarie Forrest. He is also survived by his seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lafleur was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ethel Fontenot Lafleur; his daughter, Deborah Lafleur Wade; his brothers, Hilton Lafleur, Joseph Lafleur and his sisters, Monita Lafleur Soileau and Emma Lou Lafleur.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will re-open on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. until time of services. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
