Honore Tate

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Honore Tate, age 87, will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Opelousas, La., followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Austin Leger will be the celebrant of the mass.

Honore, a native of Ville Platte, La. and resident of Opelousas, La. and former resident of Washington, La., passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010 in Opelousas.

Mr. Tate was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He retired from the Wildlife and Fisheries after 28 years. He was also a member of the Louisiana Breeders Association and a member of the Horsemans Benevolent Protective Association.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gladys Stout Tate of Opelousas his sons, Dr. Richard Tate and wife, Mary Beth, of Opelousas Robert Tate and wife, Linda, of Leonville a daughter, Virginia T. Fontenot and husband, James Keith, of Swords a brother, Edwin Red Tate of Washington a sister, Thelma T. Stevens of Washington nine grandchildren, Nicole F. Perry of Baton Rouge Emily F. Gauthier of Baton Rouge Jacqueline T. Henson of Lafayette Dr. Rachael Tate of Opelousas Dr. Jennifer T. Brasseaux of Carencro Rebecca T. Richard of Sunset Amanda T. Olivier of Leonville Ashley Tate of Opelousas and Robin Tate of Leonville. He is also survived by 13 greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Cora Barron Tate and two sisters, Alma T. Fisher and Luna T. Vidrine.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Olivier, Tony Richard, Roger Henson, Andre Brasseaux, Dr. Ryan Perry and Charlie Gauthier.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
