Hilman Boudreaux

OpelousasA Mass of Christian Burial for Hilman Boudreaux, age 86, will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Mausoleum in Opelousas, Louisiana. Reverend Monsignor Louis Melancon will conduct the services.

Mr. Boudreaux, a life long resident of the Opelousas community, succumbed to a long term illness and died on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 2:00 a.m. at the Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas in the company of his family.

As a young man, Mr. Boudreaux served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army, where he earned his wings as an Army Aviator. Prior to the end of the war, he was transferred due to the needs of the service to the Army Infantry and sent to St. Vith, Belgium where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge. After receiving numerous wounds, Sgt. Boudreaux and the majority of the 106th Infantry Division survivors were captured by German forces and imprisoned until liberated May 15, 1945. Upon discharge from the military, Mr. Boudreaux married the former Sybil E. Soileau of Opelousas. He began his professional career by establishing and selling several retail businesses. He later worked for both Swift-Estech Association and Lou Anna Foods as a sales representative. In 1989, Mr. Boudreaux retired from the St. Landry Homestead Federal Savings Bank as the President, C.E.O. and Chairman of the Board. During his professional career, he was a member of numerous civic organizations including the St. Landry Parish Cattlemans Association, American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, member of the Board of Directors of the Doctors Hospital of Opelousas and a Fifty year member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Boudreaux was involved in the establishment of the First National Bank of Opelousas and the Lewisburg-Bellevue Water System, Inc. where he served for twenty-five years as a Board Member and Secretary. In addition to his professional career in retail sales and banking, he was an avid farmer and cattleman.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sybil Soileau Boudreaux of Opelousas; his son, Al C. Boudreaux, and his wife, Laynette Guillory Boudreaux of Opelousas; his brother, Garland J. Boudreaux and his wife, Marie Cary Boudreaux, of Opelousas and his sister, Norma LaGrange of Winfield. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Angela C. Boudreaux and grandson, Dr. Brad Alan Boudreaux and his wife, Kelly.

Mr. Boudreaux was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Eve Richard Boudreaux of Opelousas.
