Funeral services for Mr. Herbert Porky Joseph Ortego will be held on Sunday, December 9th, 2007 at 2:00PM at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington with the interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Albert Nunez will conduct the services.
Mr. Ortego, age 71, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at his residence. He is a veteran of the United States Army. He was President of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of Sugar House Hunting club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at Whiskey Club. He was well known for his great cooking during his tenure in the service and barbecued throughout the state while with the Department of Agriculture. He took pride in his vegetable garden and his family and friends benefited from his generosity. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Mr. Ortego is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joycelyn Joy Roberie Ortego of Washington, daughters; Carla and her husband Paul Quirk, Judy Ortego Leger , Shanna and her husband Thomas Bernard, all of Washington, a brother; Mitch Earl Ortego of McComb MS., his sisters; Bernadine Trahan of Patterson La., Mercedese Sis Fontenot of Denham Springs, Clara Dunnington of Walker La, Becky Fruge of Lafayette and Vicki Chelette of Washington. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has requested that visitation will be observed on Saturday, December 8, 2007 from 3:00PM to 10:00PM and will continue on Sunday from 8:AM until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 6:30PM on Saturday.
