Funeral services will be held for Henry Hartshorn Scholer at 11:00 on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Opelousas, LA.
Henry Hartshorn Scholer was born on September 24, 1928 and passed away on March 28, 2015 at the age of 86.
Everyone knew him by his nickname "Hank". He was born and raised in the state of Michigan. As a young man he served in the Merchant Marines. After returning from the serving in the Merchant Marines, he attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics and fulfilled his dream of becoming an airplane pilot. He became a very experienced pilot with many thousands of hours of flying time. Over the years he worked as an airline pilot, a private pilot for business executives, a flight instructor and a crop duster.
In the early 1950's he took a job as a crop duster in the south. Eventually he ended up living in Melville, Louisiana working as a crop duster. There he met Ramona Goudeau who became his second wife. He settled there in Melville and started his business "Hanks Flying Services" which he operated for many years.
After marrying Ramona in 1954 he came in contact with Jehovah's Witnesses. He was never a spiritual person, in fact, quite the opposite. At that time he was not even sure there was a God. His study of the Bible proved there is a creator. By going into many deep Bible prophecies that have been fulfilled, he was helped to see that the Bible is true and inspired by God. He also learned that the true God has a name, Jehovah. Hank always said that when he learned that, it had a huge impact on him to draw closer to Jehovah.
In 1955 he was baptized as a one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He became very active in the door to door ministry. He loved teaching others Bible truths. As a result he helped many to become true Christians.
Hank was not perfect. Over the years he made some very serious mistakes which he very much regretted. But he loved Jehovah and put his trust in having forgiveness through the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Henry Charles Scholer; his mother, Gladys Hartshorn Scholer and his wife, Ramona Goudeau Scholer.
He is survived by two children, his son, Henry Robert Scholer; his daughter, Cass Ann Stewart; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Amber Micka and husband, Edward Micka; Candice Fortier and husband, Richard Fortier and three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
