Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial for Henry Andrew Myers, Sr., known to many as "Blue" will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017, in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Reverend Fr. James "Jim" Brady will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum in Opelousas.
Blue, age 98, was a native of Pecaniere and a longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during WWII. Blue served on the USS Hope Hospital Ship during the Pacific Campaign.
Blue was a local business owner. He loved spending time at his camp on Bayou Courtableau and was an avid sportsman. As a member of the Elks Lodge and the Woodmen of the World, he also volunteered for many community services. Blue always put his family first and cherished his time spent with family and friends. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by Mary Fontenot Myers, his wife of 77 years; son, Andrew Myers; daughter, Judy Myers; six grandchildren, Tim and Holly Myers, Andre' and Monica Myers, Crystal Guidry, Denise Hollier, Will and Alyssia Hollier, and Drew and Nicole Hollier; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoine Myers and Aline Devillier Myers; and eight siblings.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
