Hazel Artigue

Opelousas Funeral services for Hazel Morain Artigue will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA with Reverend James Nguyen.

Hazel, age 82, a resident of Lebeau, LA died on Friday, November 30, 2012, at the Elmbrook Nursing Home in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Hazel was born to Clement and Celestine Stoute Morain on August 7, 1930 and raised in Waxia. Hazel was a 1947 Port Barre High School graduate and valedictorian. She was also an honor graduate of Spencer Business College in Lafayette. She married Herbert James Artigue in 1951 and settled off Highway 71 to raise her three children. She ran a grocery store and gasoline station for many years, did upholstery work, and opened a used furniture and antique shop. She was a longtime member of the Palmetto Ladys Altar Society and Saint Thomas Church. Her favorite pastimes were playing Pokeno, dancing and sharing time with her friends. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by one daughter, Debra Artigue Crawford and her husband, Curtis, of Jakarta, Indonesia one son, Michael James Artigue and his wife, Carrannel, of Ardmore, Oklahoma six grandchildren, Albert, Hope, Pamela, Herbert, Chris and Kathryn and six greatgrandchildren one sister, Armede Morain Smith two brothers, Herbert Morain and Johnny Morain and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clement Morain and Celestine Stoute Morain her loving husband, Herbert her younger son, Clinton Doyle Artigue two sisters, Lelia Morain Guidry and Lucille Morain Meche two brothers, Charles Morain and Leroy Morain.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Michael Artigue, Curtis Crawford and her grandchildren, Albert Artigue, Pam Artigue, Herbert Artigue and Chris Artigue.
