Port Barre - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Harrison Devillier, age 73, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015, in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Port Barre, LA. Rite of Committal will follow at the Sacred Heart Church Mausoleum. Reverend Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass. Musical selections and readings will be provided by Pam Stanford and musical accompaniment by Pat Melancon.
Mr. Devillier, a resident of Port Barre, LA, died on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Harrison retired from Coburn's after almost 30 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was affectionately known a "Poppa" to his grandchildren and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Harrison will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy B. Devillier, of Port Barre, LA; his son, John Spenser Devillier and wife, Michelle, of Port Barre, LA; his sister, Mary Jane D. Richard and husband, Russell J. Richard, of Port Barre, LA; his step-son, Wade Bernard and wife, Delaine, of Pineville, LA; his step-daughter, Charmain Bernard, of Pineville, LA; his sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Meche Speyrer and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Brouillette. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Devin Devillier, Ethan Devillier, Haydn Devillier, Cowen Devillier, Chris Ellis, Tyler Wrightstone, Amber Bernard, Joel Bernard, Chelsey Jenkins, Dillon Bernard, Ashley Bernard; 2 great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law, Juanita Smith and husband, Kenneth, of Simmesport, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lonnie Devillier and Lydia Arnaud Devillier; his first wife, Shirley Melancon Devillier; his brother, Joseph Howard Devillier; his father-in-law, Hubert "Lo Lo" Brouillette; and his in-laws, Saul and Agnes Melancon.
Pallbearers will be Devin Devillier, Ethan Devillier, Wade Bernard, Jody Fontenot, Jason Devillier, Willie Kartchner and honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Richard, Jack Stelly, Russell Richard, Chris Ellis and Quinton Stanford.
Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
