Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial for Gwendolyn Smith will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 31, 2015, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Reverend James Brady will conduct the services. Interment will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, LA.

Mrs. Smith, age 56, died on Monday, January 26, 2015, at her residence in Lafayette, LA.

Mrs. Smith a former resident of Rome, Georgia was both an X-ray technician and a homemaker. She had a passion for fashion and a great love for animals. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all who loved and cared for her.

She is survived by her sons, Jason Smith Jr. of New York, New York whom is employed in the hotel hospitality industry, and Taylor Smith of New Orleans, LA whom is a student at LSU Medical School; her sisters, Carol Hidalgo and husband Bill Mueller of Opelousas, LA, Cindy Reviere and husband Jed of Eunice, LA, Joyce Beaugh and husband Tim of Houston, TX, Myra Hidalgo and life partner Amy Archinal of New Orleans, LA; as well as a host of nieces, great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mona Hidalgo; and parents, Gerald Paul Hidalgo and Earline Soileau.
