Funeral services for Gussie Gus LeBlanc will be held Monday February 26, 2007 at 2:00pm in the St. Landry Catholic Church with interment at Bellevue Memorial Park. Msgr. Robert Romero will conduct the services.
Mr. LeBlanc, 87, a resident of Opelousas, died at Doctors Hospital of Opelousas on Friday February 23, 2007 at 8:28pm. He was a shop foreman at Bordelon Motors for 38 years and was a long time usher and team leader at St. Landry Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, served in World War II and was a Special Purpose Vehicle operator and participated in the following battles and campaigns; Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe and Air Offensive Europe. He was a in the 367th Bombardment Squadron of the 306th Division. He also received the following medals: EAMETO medal, Good Conduct medal and Distinguished Unit Badge.
He is survived by his son; Glenn Roy and wife Shawn Frischhertz LeBlanc of Opelousas, a brother; Kirtley LeBlanc and his wife Charlene of Port Barre and sisters; Helen Basile of Opelousas and JoAnn McCarthy and husband Dr. James McCarthy of Opelousas. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren; Grant Ross and Lauren Mackenzie LeBlanc.
He was preceded in death by his wife Argentine Roy LeBlanc, his parents; Frank and Emily Gros LeBlanc, 2 brothers; Frank LeBlanc and James Leblanc and a sister Daisy Mae LeBlanc.
The family has requested that visitation be observed on Sunday February 25, 2007 at 3:00pm until 9:00pm and will continue on Monday from 10:00am until time of service. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7:00pm.
