Opelousas Funeral services for Gussie Dupre, Jr, age 83, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, followed by interment in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.
Mr. Dupre who was a native of Grand Prairie and resident of Washington, died on June 18, 2010 in the Lafayette General Medical Center.
Gussie was a man that loved his family, friends and life. He expressed this love of life by his role as a Boy Scout leader, by serving as a Washington town councilman, he was a member of the American Legion Post 209, a representative of the Silver Hair Legislature, for his love of dancing, L.S.U. , fishing, cooking and he did not miss an episode of Wheel of Fortune. Those that knew Gussie remembered that he never missed a chance to use his license to hug card. He was a Master Salesman at Bordelon Ford for 28 years in a row. During World War II, Mr. Dupre served his country with pride in the Pacific theatre as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne in the U.S. Army. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include the love of his life during their 63 years of marriage, Irene Fontenot Dupre of Washington son, Wayne Dupre and wife Faye of Opelousas two daughters, Pat Dupre Granger and husband Terry of Corsicana, TX and Connie Dupre Rutland and husband James Pepper of Baton Rouge two sisters, Joyce D. Marks of Lebeau and Alice D. Meche of Bunkie grandchildren, Derrick, Jordan, and Harley Fontenot, Gus Dupre, Wendy Dupre, Dana Gore and husband Elmo, Cady Sunsdahl and husband Captain Jared Sunsdahl, Kennan Bruser, Jeffrey and Michael Rutland and Lori Granger great grandchildren, Arlee and Avery Gore, Madison, Maegan, and Rebekah Sunsdahl, Jacob, Anna Ligh, and Adeline Bruser his cat Menew III his special friends, Emily and Nic Daniels and their children a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Gussie and Lola Fontenot Dupre daughter, Toni Kim Dupre Fontenot brothers, L. T., Lamart, Harris, and Dallas Dupre sisters, Bathilde D. Fruge, Della D. Fontenot, Mary Cecille D. Mathieu, and Anna Mae D. Marcantel.
Pallbearers will be Terry Granger, Gus Dupre, Michael Rutland, Harley Fontenot, Jordan Fontenot, Jeffery Rutland and Michael Rutland.
Visitation will be held in the LaFondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning Monday, June 21, 2010 from 5:00 9:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Monday.
