Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gregory Gerard Leger, Sr., age 58, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2016 St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Reverend Austin Leger will celebrate the Mass. Burial will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Leger, a resident of Opelousas, LA died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at his residence.
Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked for 35 years in the Oil and Gas Drilling Industry at Parker Drilling where he was a Drilling Superintendent and Field Superintendent over the construction of Arctic Class Drilling Units. After 15 years with Park Drilling he joined AGR FJ Brown as a Drilling Consultant where he worked on the Davy Jones Well Project, one of the deepest high pressure wells ever drilled in the Gulf of Mexico. Greg was a loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gretchen Matt Leger; his mother, Thelma Savoy Leger; his daughter, Christina Leger Hebert and husband, Edward and their children, Jackson, Spencer and Zoe; his sons, Gregory Gerard Leger, Jr. and wife, Sara and their children, Trey and Bella, Jeremy Leger and wife, Ashley and their child, Wyatt; his brother Mike Leger and wife, Angie and their children, Kathryn and Camille.
He was preceded in death by his father, Remi Leger; his godfather and uncle Ray Savoy; his cousin and godchild, Troy Savoy.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Leger Jr., Jeremy Leger, Mike Leger, Edward Hebert, Ted Pavy and Dewey Matt, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be David "Breeze" Lasseigne and Allen Henley.
Visitation will be held in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, January 2, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Monday by Deacon Ulysse Joubert. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
