Gregory Fontenot

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gregory "Tubby" Fontenot at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will conduct the services. Burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Fontenot, age 52, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Opelousas General Health System after battling a lengthy illness.

Greg was the owner and operator of the "Eat 'N Go Grill" in Opelousas for several years. Greg had a passion for cooking since he started making homemade chili at the age of 15 and enjoyed cooking up delicious meals. He also loved playing with his rat terrier, Scooby. He loved spending time and visiting with his family and friends and also enjoyed a good telephone conversation. Greg will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Roberta Daigle Fontenot, of Opelousas, LA; his daughter, Lacie Hebert, of Erath, LA; his brother, Robert Fontenot and wife, Rose Valle, of Opelousas, LA; his sister, Phyllis Fontenot Graphia and husband, Renee, of Denim Springs, LA; nephews, Steven Wayne Fontenot and Robert M. Fontenot Jr. and his nieces, Chanel Franks and Karen Marie Fontenot.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Fontenot; his brother, Steve Ronald Fontenot; his grandparents, August and Clara S. Sanders Fontenot and Jacque Daigle and Ura Bergeron Touchet.

The family has requested visitation be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Bill Pollingue at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Friday until time of service.
