Gloria Gay Olivier, a beloved homemaker and devoted family member, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at her residence in Opelousas, Louisiana, at the age of 76. Born on November 18, 1947, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Gloria spent her life cultivating a warm and loving environment for her family and those around her.
Gloria's heart was intertwined with her family; she cherished every moment spent with them and had a special affection for children, whom she adored as a nanny. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did, from her passion for cooking and gardening to her joyful enthusiasm for outdoor activities. Gloria often delighted in taking her children and grandchildren fishing, sharing her knowledge and love for the outdoors, as well as creating countless memories through mud riding adventures. She truly embraced the beauty of nature and enjoyed every opportunity to experience it with her loved ones.
One of Gloria's proudest accomplishments was her enduring marriage to Gilbert Olivier, Jr. They were inseparable companions for an incredible 59 years. Their love served as an inspiration to all who knew them, and their bond will be cherished forever.
Gloria Gay Olivier leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories that will be forever held in the hearts of her family and friends. Her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. She was a devoted Catholic and her faith was an integral part of her life.
Gloria will be deeply missed by her devoted son, Scotty Olivier; her beloved daughter, Jessica Olivier Durham and husband, Mike; her treasured grandchildren: Myson Durham, Matthew Durham, Babe Durham, Justin Olivier, and Hillary O'Connell; her precious great-grandchildren: Savy Durham, Blaze Durham, Presley Durham, Jameson Durham, Isla Durham, Ridge Michael Durham, Layton Olivier, Maverick O'Connell, as well as two great-grandbabies on the way. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Olivier, Jr.; her parents, Adam Gay and Viola Leleux Gay; two brothers, Roland Gay and Ulysses Gay; and two sisters, Marie Devillier and Iola Marks. She will be reunited with them in eternal peace.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. The Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
The Liturgy of the Word Service will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Mark Ledoux at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2024, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. The Rite of Committal and graveside services will follow at the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum, 914 N. Union Street, Opelousas, LA.
Known for her kind spirit, Gloria was a vibrant presence in the lives of those who knew her. Her cheerful demeanor and nurturing personality made her a friend to all, and her ability to love unconditionally left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
