A Mass of Christian Burial for Gloria Carroll Chapman will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2011, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas, La., followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Paul Bienvenu will conduct the mass.
Mrs. Chapman, age 68, a resident of Port Barre, La., died on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by love.
Gloria lived most of her life in Opelousas but resided in Port Barre, La. She retired from the St. Landry Parish School Board and was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Every strong home is built with a stable foundation. She was the strongest beam of our support system. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, caring sister and thoughtful friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her son, Michael Chapman and wife, Michele, of Dry Creek, La. her daughters, Lisa Brinkhaus and husband, James, of Opelousas, La. Rebecca Salassi and husband, Greg, of Youngsville, La. her brother Glenn Carroll and wife, Mary, of Woodworth, La. her sister, Fannie C. Soileau of Bridge City, Texas. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley, Brandon and Marie Brinkhaus, Brandon, Christina, Katherine and Kiley McIver, Allison and Alex Salassi, Timothy and Brent Chapman, Alexis, Hunter and Ty Hill and also, 6 greatgrandchildren, Sean, Zane, Collin, Evan, Kirsten and Jase and also a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Jack Chapman her parents, Rufus and Beverly Carroll her brother, Rufus Carroll, Jr. and her grandparents, McClan and Lillian Young, Fannie Latiolais and Gilbert and Noelie Carroll.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. until service. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Christopher and Brandon Brinkhaus Brandon McIver Timothy and Brent Chapman and Joseph Soileau. Honorary pallbearers will be Ty and Hunter Hill and Alex Salassi.
