OpelousasFuneral services for Gladys Marie Joubert Comeaux Richard will held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at LafondArdoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, La. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery by Reverend Perry C. Hubbs.

Mrs. Richard, age, 86, a native of Lawtell, La. and resident of Opelousas, La. She left this earth to meet her Heavenly Father at 7:36 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Opelousas General Health System.

Mrs. Richard was a founding member of the Opelousas Bible Church and has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Opelousas for many years. At both churches she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Senior Adult Choir at the First Baptist Church.

She extended her service to the Lord by ministering to the guests at Senior Village Nursing Home, not only during the First Baptist Churchs Sunday worship service, but went oneonone telling jokes, sharing her poems and singing her favorite song, Amazing Grace, in French. She knew no strangers and was always ready to tell others of Christ. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was mainly a homemaker but also worked at the now extinct, but at one time viable businesses, Mouret Packing Company, Krogers, J.W. Lowes 5 10 Store and the St. Landry Clinic Hospital.

Survivors include her two daughters, Doris Comeaux and husband, Edmund Stelly, of Opelousas, La. Brenda Comeaux Smith and husband, Jack Soape, of Church Point, La. five grandchildren, Nina Stelly and husband, Donald Seraile, of Opelousas Carlos Mark Stelly of Westchester, PA Baxter Smith and wife, Natalie Buller, of Opelousas, La. Brittany Smith and James Bart Smith, of Opelousas, La. She is also survived by six stepgrandchildren, Tracy Soape and husband, Victor Rodriguez Christina Soape and Denise Soape Hatfield all of Flatonia, Texas Valentino ThibodeauxRodriguez of Victoria, Texas Miranda ThibodeauxRodriguez and husband, Chris Ryan, both serving in the U.S. Army, at Fort Polk, La. eight greatgrandchildren, 10 stepgreat grandchildren, two greatgreat grandchildren and four stepgreatgreatgrandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by her spouses, Wallace Comeaux and George Lee Richard her parents, Leon Joubert and Mayraunte Emerenthe Frutell.
She was the last surviving sibling of nine and their spouses infants, Regina and Doris Joubert Alix Marion Pitre Gervais Joubert Pauline Darius Joubert wife, Bertha Savoie and Mary Terracina Leo Joubert Virgie Gautreaux Lula Joubert Arnold Smith Nelma Joubert Earl Darby one stepgrandson, PFC Christopher Kilpatrick, an Army hero in the Iraqi War 2005 and nephew, Floyd Pitre, also an Army hero in the Vietnam War 1969.

The family expresses their thanks to the staff at OGH, LTAC and AcadiaSt. Landry Hospital for the special care given to Mrs. Gladys and to special family members, Mary White, Christine Sellers and David Chautin for their continued visits and care.

Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, beginning on Monday, July 16, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday until service time.
