Lawtell A Mass of Christian Burial for Gilbert Papino Vigil will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the St. Bridget Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget Church Cemetery in Lawtell, LA. Reverend Ted Broussard will officiate the service.
Mr. Vigil, age 82, a resident of Lawtell, LA died on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at his granddaughters house in Morgan City, LA.
Gilbert served his country proudly as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Bathilda Bourgeois Vigil of Lawtell, LA his son, Anthony Vigil of Lawtell, LA his daughters, Jennifer Cook of Morgan City, LA Pam Kral of Sarasota, Florida his brothers, Leroy Vigil and Philemon Vigil both of Mora, New Mexico his sisters, Viola Romero of Questa, New Mexico Sally Hubbard of Colorado Springs, Colorado Josie Shindol of Denver, Colorado and Barbara Vigil of Bakersfield, California. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Tawnia Bullara, Andrea Robinson, Leslie Torres, Lance Doucet, Summer Vigil and eight greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amarante and Fedilina Vigil his sisters, Molly Vigil, Emily Vigil his grandson, Michael John Kral and his granddaughter, Desiree Yvonne Robinson.
Visiting hours will be observed in the LafondArdoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
