Opelousas, LA - Gilbert Olivier, Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, passed away on July 9, 2023, at Opelousas General Health System. He was born on January 6, 1942, in Opelousas, LA. Gilbert was a kind-hearted man who touched the lives of many with his warm smile and gentle nature.

Gilbert dedicated many years of his life working as a shop foreman at Standard Fittings. His hard work and commitment made him an invaluable member of the company. He took great pride in his career and was respected by his colleagues and superiors alike.

While Gilbert was known for his impeccable work ethic, he also had a passion for the simple pleasures of life. He thoroughly enjoyed barbequing for friends and family gatherings, where he would showcase his culinary skills and bring everyone together with delicious meals. When he wasn't behind the grill, Gilbert loved spending time outdoors engaging in activities like hunting, fishing, gardening, and bird and squirrel watching. These hobbies allowed him to connect with nature and find solace in its beauty.

One of Gilbert's proudest accomplishments was his enduring marriage to Gloria Gay Olivier. They were inseparable companions for an incredible 59 years. Their love served as an inspiration to all who knew them, and their bond will be cherished forever.

Gilbert will be deeply missed by his loving wife Gloria Gay Olivier; his devoted son Scotty Olivier; his beloved daughter Jessica Olivier Durham and husband Mike; his caring brothers Floyd Olivier and Joe Olivier; his treasured grandchildren Myson Durham, Matthew Durham, Babe Durham, Justin Olivier, Hillary O'Connell; his precious great-grandchildren Savy Durham, Blaze Durham, Presley Durham, Jameson Durham, Isla Durham, Layton Olivier; as well as Maverick O'Connell.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Olivier and Vergie Venable Olivier, his brothers Oren Olivier and Albert Olivier, and his sister Martha Olivier Richard. He will be reunited with them in eternal peace.

Those honored to be Gilberts pallbearers are Myson Durham, Blaze Durham, Babe Durham, Andrew Olivier, Alex Smith and Tres Lanclos.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home located at 2845 S Union St in Opelousas, LA. Visitation will be held on July 13, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary service at 6:00 PM. Visiting will continue on Friday, July 14, 2023, starting at 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM followed by Liturgy of the Word celebrated by Reverend Mark Ledoux at 11:00 AM.  Rite of Committal will be held at the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum and Cemetery located at 914 N Union St in Opelousas, LA on July 14, 2023.

Gilbert Olivier, Jr. was a remarkable man who lived life with kindness and joy. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
