Geraldine "Pap" Roy

Opelousas - It is with deep sorrow we regretfully announce the passing of Geraldine “Pap” Duplechain Roy on Monday, August 22, 2022, at the age of 95.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Geraldine “Pap” Roy, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.  Father Neil Pettit will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

Geraldine was born to Merrick “Chap” and Jimmie Aline Duplechain on February 12, 1927.  She was a parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church.  She was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters.  Geraldine was a well-known beautician in the Opelousas area.  She owned and operated her beauty salon in her home for 75 years.  Geraldine loved traveling and making arts and crafts.  She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

She leaves behind her beloved family, her son, Kenneth W. Roy and wife, Cheryl, of Kingswood, Texas, her daughter, Janis P. Landry; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Hatfield of Los Angeles, California, Kevin Roy of San Diego, California, David Roy of Houston, Texas, Crista (Shane) Theriot, of Opelousas, La., Alaina (Chad) Vidrine of Ville Platte, La., Tammie Landry of Boutte, La., and Gylles Landry (Brandon) of Pearland, Texas; her nieces and nephews, Ellen Renee White of St. Petersburg, Florida, Dale Scott Duplechain of Orlando, Florida, Paul Michael Duplechain of Tampa, Florida; her great-grandchildren, Chase (Brookly) Theriot, Carson Theriot, Cade Theriot, Devin and Parker Casse, Kale Vidrine, Ivy Grace and Lillian Paige Matherne and her great-great grandchildren, Amie K. Casse, Quinn Theriot and Adleigh Ruth Theriot.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.C. “To To” Roy; her parents, “Chap” and “Jimmie” Duplechain; her son, “Jimbo” Jimmie Roy; her brother, N.G. “Brother” and his wife, Alice; her granddaughter, Amie Denise Casse and her special grandson, Dylan Latiolais.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.  A Rosary will be prayed Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.

Pallbearers will Shane Theriot, Chad Vidrine, Brandon Matherne, Devin Casse, Chase Theriot and Parker Casse.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Hatfield, Cade Theriot, Kale Vidrine, Kevin Roy, and David Roy.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Geraldine’s friends, Jane Savoy, Geri Ryder, her Foxwood neighbors, Dixon family and her Magnolia Ridge neighbors.
