July 30, 1928 — June 2, 2024

A visitation of family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.   Father Clint Trahan will conduct the service.  The burial will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, La.

Dean was born in Washington, La. on July 30, 1928.   She was 95 years old.  A remarkable age for a remarkable woman.   She grew up in Lawtell and was a resident of Opelousas for many years.  She graduated from Lawtell High School in 1944 where her father was the principal.  She then went on to SLI (now ULL) and received her B.S. degree in education.  She then taught school for a few years before marrying Jerry Chauvin.  She had four children:  Christine, Jay, Edward and George.

Dean was a very devout Catholic and taught catechism for many years at St. Landry Catholic Church.  She became a very active member of the Catholic Charismatic Movement in the 70’s and 80’s.  One of her most cherished memories was attending the International Charismatic Conference in Rome in 1975.

Her love of God, love for her children and love of her friends were the things that made her unique.  Dean was a quiet hero who served others in her lifetime.  In 1978 she reunited with her college sweetheart, Teo Edrington, the love her life.  She and Teo had a wonderful marriage and spent time traveling around the country and the world.  They lived in Sulphur until Teo’s retirement and then moved back to Opelousas so she could be near family and friends.

Dean is survived by her children, Christine Owen and husband, Dr. Stan Owen, Jay Chauvin and wife, Christy and Dr. Edward Chauvin; seven grandchildren, Senator Robert (Bob) Owen and wife (Cindy), Dr. Jonathan Owen (Rebecca), Ben Chauvin (Jeanette), Patrick Chauvin, Jasmine Fatheree and husband (Brandon Fatheree), John Chauvin, and Charlot Sorensen and husband (Dr. David Sorenson) and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Teo Edrington; her son, George Chauvin; her brother, George Joubert, Jr.; her mother and father, George and Irma Joubert and her grandson, James Chauvin.

Family and friends are invited to sign and view the online guestbook at www.lafondardoin.com.
